Community Resource & Reporting Center (CRRC)
After-School Program

Program Overview

The Community Resource & Reporting Center (CRRC) serves youth ages 10–17 from the City of Alexandria who are justice-involved, diversion-eligible, or at risk of court involvement. The program provides structured after-school and summer services focusing on accountability, emotional regulation, educational engagement, and family stability. CRRC operates as a community-based intervention program designed to prevent deeper system involvement by offering consistent structure, therapeutic support, and skill-building opportunities in a safe, supervised environment.

Operating as a component of the Sheltercare Program of Northern Virginia, the CRRC functions as an alternative or step-down resource for youth who would otherwise require residential placement or intensive supervision. Participants are referred primarily through the Alexandria Court Services Unit (CSU), the Department of Social Services (DSS), or other community partners. The program runs five days per week for five hours per day during the school year (3:00–8:00 p.m.) and from 12:00–6:30 p.m. on non-school days and during the summer months. Transportation is provided to and from all program activities to ensure accessibility and consistent participation.

CRRC’s programming integrates academic support, therapeutic groups, and community engagement to address the multifaceted needs of participants. Youth receive tutoring, life skills instruction, and psychoeducational groups focused on anger management, coping skills, substance use prevention, and mindfulness. These services help promote behavioral stability, emotional growth, and academic success.

Beyond skill development, CRRC places a strong emphasis on family engagement, mentorship, and mental health awareness. Staff maintain close communication with parents, schools, and referral sources to support individualized progress and continuity of care. Participants also engage in community service projects, recreation and fitness activities, and violence prevention education, each designed to reduce risk factors and strengthen positive social connections.
